Alice Hilton
Lead Commercial Estimator/Project Manager

Our lead estimator for commercial projects here at The Sophia Design Group, Alice heads our crack estimation and commercial engineering team. With extensive experience in the construction and equipment purchasing fields, Alice has a keen eye for detail and the design experience necessary to keep up with the demanding flow of commercial construction project requests coming to the SDGI team.
After achieving her B.A. in Interior Design from Stephen F. Austin University in 1992, Alice began her career with three years in soft line/retail interior design at Jenney, using this time to build a firm foundation in retail sales and customer service.
Her career took another turn and for the next 16 years she focused on kitchen and bath cabinetry design, splitting her talent between Builder’s Square, Lowe’s, and K & D Woodwork. These three companies continued her education and training in both customer service and sales, while Builder’s Square provided additional intensive training including advanced knowledge of plumbing fixtures by representatives from both Kohler and American Standard, advanced training on semi-custom cabinetry from American Wood mark, and advanced sales training and marketing strategies including closing techniques.
At Lowe’s she was instrumental in helping to organize and boost sales in the cabinetry department as well as helping to train new employees and cross train department managers in special order sales. The next 10 years saw her at K & D Woodwork, a family owned custom cabinet shop, where she further honed her skills in cabinet design, cut listing shop drawings for manufacture and general office management.
Finally capitalizing on her office experience, she moved on to oilfield purchasing, being “on call” for rig purchases and being responsible for orders and receiving for up to 30 rigs at a time.
Here at SDGI, Alice is responsible for accurately analyzing, bidding and managing commercial project bids worth tens of millions of dollars.

John Wilson
Operations/Technology Officer

Our Operations and Technology Officer, John brings over 35 years of experience in Corporate America to the SDGI team. Bank of America, Hewlett-Packard and Sprint are some of the companies where John has been honing his technological and business acumen. But beginnings are never what one expects…
A racquet sport enthusiast, John envisioned a career on the tennis courts after college but this was not to be. A serious injury forced John into the Information Technology field and he never looked back! Initially working as a consultant for his entrepreneur father, John began in the Hospital/Medical industry before moving on his own into Accounting/Finance, Insurance, Networking and finally Mortgage Banking where he gained considerable business and IT knowledge while managing Billion dollar revenue streams for some of these corporate giants. Management experience notwithstanding, John had the opportunity to build and setup smaller IT shops, invaluable experience when joining or forming a small business.
In between, he co-founded a small software company specializing in providing office automation products to Insurance agencies where he was the chief engineer/designer. This gave him the small business compliment to his big business experience.
For more than 40 years, when not working, John has devoted considerable energy to promoting and teaching various sports including tennis, badminton, special Olympic golfing events and chess.
After many discussions as cousins over the years, Mike finally convinced John to join him here at the Sophia Design Group where he will be instrumental helping to move the company into the industry mainstream!
